Company History

Custom Expansion Joints provides expansion joints and dampers for power plants and many types of industrial facilities. To date, CEJ has successfully engineered customized products with a 100% satisfaction rate.

Dale L. Miller, Founder and head of Sales and Engineering at CEJ, holds a Business & Engineering Degree from the University of Nebraska and began working with expansion joints when he accepted a position as Superintendent of Maintenance at New Port Electric Power Plant, Rhode Island, in 1962. Dale worked there five years before moving to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where he was Utility Engineer for Corn Products.

Dale then moved to Kansas City, Missouri to work for Worthington Corporation as their District Manager for Customer Service in 1967. Later, Dale became a Sales Representative for an expansion joint industry leader where he covered a four state region.

In 1974, Mark Miller, Dale’s son also joined this industry leader as a Sales Representative. Together, Dale and Mark helped pioneer the use of fabric expansion joints beginning with the Teflon Belt market. Dale founded Custom Expansion Joints in 1986, and incorporated in 1990. Today, CEJ is headed by Mark Miller, President and has grown to be a major competitor in the expansion joint market.

CEJ performs all temperature tests on its fabric and insulation, all fabric movement tests, pressure tests and chemical attack testing. CEJ has supplied fabric expansion joint sizes ranging from 2” - 192” Dia. ID and 16’ x 78’ rectangular.
